ABOUT CHRISTOPHER SCOTT

Imagination Released

Director, Actor, Theatre Artist and Educator Biography

First - Thanks for visiting me! I am a New York City professional theatre artist who has been creating for over 25 years. I am a graduate of the Boston Conservatory and a member of The Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC) Actors Equity Association(AEA) and SAG/AFTRA . Having experience in all types of theatre and acting styles, I am equally home with realistic dramas, classical, Shakespeare, Greek, Musical Theatre, Absurdist, Devised Theatre - specializing in creating  non-linear thematic theatre pieces using original writings in combination with existing material. My vast experience as an actor, including my association with Michael Howard, makes me especially sensitive to the actor's work and knows how the actor’s best work is essential to the overall product.  My strength in visualization and artistic sensibilities adds to the overall esthetics and cohesiveness of story telling. I am equally at home with High-Tech productions as well as actor driven vehicles and always welcome a staging challenge.

As Artistic Director of The Masterworks Theater Company in New York City our vision is to present accessible, professional multi-cultural productions of theatrical and literary heavyweights that are widely produced and studied in educational settings. We hope to bring these classics to a wider population at affordable ticket prices in productions reflecting the world we live in now  to help ignite the audience for live theater for the next generation. Founded with Eric Krebs our first Off-Broadway season in Spring 2015 included the first multi-cultural production of Tennessee William’s THE GLASS MENAGERIE (Audelco Award Nomination) presented Off-Broadway in New York City.

Starting as an actor I have appeared On and Off – Broadway. I had the honor appearing on the 1990 Tony Awards performing the part of “Lon” while in the Broadway production of MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS. I performed over 1,000 performances as the Boy in THE FANTASTICKS! the worlds longest running musical (Sullivan Street – NOT Snapple).  As a founding member of the New Voices Theatre Ensemble in residence at Synchronicity Space in SoHo I appeared in leading roles in major New York Off-Broadway revivals of BENT (Horst) and THE TWILIGHT OF THE GOLDS (David) as well as workshop productions of ADONIS  and directed and All-Male production of Claire Boothe Luce’s THE WOMEN. Off- Broadway I also appeared in THE CHOSEN, JEKYLL AND HYDE, PETS! AND THE BODY SHOP. I have worked at George Street Playhouse, The Goodspeed Opera House, St. Michael’s Playhouse in productions of a CONNECTICUT YANKEE…, THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE ABRIDGED, THE LADY’S NOT FOR BURNING and MURDER ON THE NILE. I had the honor of  being directed by the legendary Ginger Rodger’s in a Pre-Broadway Production of BABES IN ARMS.

Currently a member of the Playwright/Directors Workshop at the legendary Actors Studio where I have been developing a new play about Claude Monet by playwright Lanie Robertson (author of Broadway's LADY DAY AT EMERSON'S BAR AND GRILL) called THE GARDNER.  He has directed many Off-Broadway Productions. Most recently he is represented with GOD SHOWS UP by Peter Filichia at The Actors Temple Theatre GREED: A MUSICAL FOR OUR TIMES produced by longtime collaborator Eric Krebs, as well as the hit musical GOLF:THE MUSICAL by Michael Roberts (Drama Desk Nomination) and NANCY FRIDAY’S MY SECRET GARDEN which he not only directed but also adapted from her ground-breaking bestseller about women’s sexual fantasies for the stage with Miss Friday. YEARS OF SKY at 59E59; FringeNYC 2012 Barbara Suter's BEST NIGHT EVER and SITTING SHIVA at FringeNYC2014.  At The Actors Studio he directed A MOTHER’S LOVE by Michael Watson for their Spring 2012 Play Festival and MURDER AT THE BARNBURNERS by Lanie Robertson and BLINDSIDED by Michael Watson for the Spring 2015 Play Festival.
